Variety reports that David Goyer (The Invisible, Blade: Trinity) has signed on to direct X-Men spin-off Magneto for 20th Century Fox and Marvel Entertainment! Goyer will develop a script that was written by Sheldon Turner.

The film does not have a release date yet, but should move along quicker than expected, now that the project has a director! Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine spin-off (which will come first) is expected to have a director soon.

“I mean, you know, I think it would be like anything else. I loved the people I worked with and they are people I’ve known now for a really long time, as far as a lot of the creative people behind and in the movie.” says Anna Paquin, when asked if she would do the Wolverine film or another X-Men film.

“If it was something that was really interesting and exciting and I got to do something cool, of course I’d want to do it, just like anything. It would be very nice to do more of that if the timing works out or whatever.”

I had been talking with [Marvel Studios] about X3, but the dates didn’t line up. So I took on “Wonder Woman,” and that worked out great! Oh, no wait, I remember now, not so much.

Yeah, I haven’t heard anything about X4. You know, the problem with the big superhero movies is there are so many hands [involved], but I really respect [Marvel Studios President of Production] Kevin Feige if they make something like that. You know they’re actually going to make it as opposed to something that’s in limbo. And you know I do love the characters. I wouldn’t say never.

But right now, I’m interested in doing “Goners,” which is my own thing, as opposed to somebody else’s. I find that doing someone else’s thing is not working out so well for me—anywhere but in the word of actual comics.

A scooper at Superhero Hype! has informed the site that a casting call has been sent out for Hugh Jackman’s WOLVERINE film! The casting agency is asking for males and females of all ages and types, with a demo reel being a HUGE PLUS!

At this time, a link to further casting details and locations are not available. We tried doing a search, but couldn’t come up with anything. Hugh Jackman shows that he still has his Wolverine body while relaxing on the beaches of Sydney, Australia! The actor is in his native country for his new film Australia with actress Nicole Kidman.

X-Men spin-off film directly after, then he’ll at least have the mutton chops grown in!

We’ve been receiving many e-mails about a quote Halle Berry had made to Empire Magazine, when asked if the rumors of a spin-off film featuring her X-Men character Storm were true:

“That absolutely is not true and will never happen.” said Berry. “Not with me anyway.”

This should not come as suprise, as the actress has said numerous times that she has no desire in taking Storm away from the X-Men team. When asked about the spin-off at last year’s X3 premiere in Cannes, the actress stated:

“I have no real desire to do that - not to knock a Wolverine or Magneto spin-off.” said Berry. “I would be happy to be a part of their movies in some way if they ask me to, but what I love about X-Men is the X-Men. It is the group of all of them together, and that is what has made the series so successful.”

Keep in mind that Halle has also been asking for an X-Men 4 on a couple occasions. The first was at The People’s Choice Awards a few months ago, and the second was at her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony last week [which had Fox chairman Tom Rothman in attendance]:

“I do want an X-Men 4, Tom, and I’m going to keep petitioning people to petition and [keep] sending you letters!”
