Producer Talks WOLVERINE 2

16 October 2009 16 Comments

Empire Magazine had a great chat with Lauren Shuler Donner on the Wolverine sequel currently being developed for 20th Century Fox! The producer gave many details about what their plans are for the Japanese storyline.

Here’s an outline of what was discussed (click here for the full article):

  • Wolverine 2 is the furthest along developing X-Men film.
  • Producers originally wanted to use the Japan storyline for the first film. Tom Rothman preferred an origin story first.
  • Wolverine 2 will feature Logan’s relationship with Mariko (the daughter of a Japanese crime lord).
  • The film will be heavily influenced by the comic book storyline.
  • It’s likely they’ll be shooting in Japan…they want to make it very authentic.
  • Wolverine will be fighting in a different style.

What characters from the first Wolverine Movie though will return for the sequel?

Sabretooth? Gambit? The Blob? Deadpool / Weapon XI? Stryker? Cyclops? Professor X? Quicksilver? Emma Frost / White Queen?

Also, what new characters could possibly be added or (if not added) at least have a cameo appearance?

Magneto? Mystique? Toad? Graydon Creed? The Scarlet Witch? Members of the Hellfire Club maybe (Sebastian Shaw)? Members of the Alpha Flight too (The Vindicator; Sasquatch; Shaman)? Lady Deathstrike?

Lady Deathstrike should easily be able to be added. Why? Because Stryker was all ready currently with her in X2: X-Men United.

sorry jacob but i don’t think magneto would be in w2, mystqiue maybe, i don’t think they’ll put cyclops or prof, Omega red, saber tooth and lady deathstike (if they shoot logan with the metle bullit again)

silver samuria is going to be in it we already know.now i think victor should be in it because he is wolverine brother and we still need to see how he changes from victor to sabretoothe and joins magneto.also another great villain is omega red but im not sure he would work in the films until the third wolverine but i would love to see him whipping those tentacles around smashing stuff and throwing wolverine around.sauron would make a nice cameo because he was in the weapon-x program and never showed up. he could be one of strykers hench man looking for wolverine with sabretoothe.and lady deathstrike is a must.

Yeah… Looking so much forward to it. Wolvie was my favorite film this year. They got the character, the setting… just everything right IMO.

One thing… do not mind to make it Rated R. Everyone who played the Uncaged Game will know what I mean. Let Wolvie go mad… especially in Japan the land of the Samurai.

Sounds like there will no characters from the X-Men universe other then Wolverine in this new movie. Lauren talks like only those characters that appeared in the Chris Claremont/Frank Miller story will be used.

  • Joe said:

But as interesting as some of this is, what about X-Men 4? That’s the movie many want to see.?

    HOW COOL!!!!

I’m looking forward to this. Any film with Hugh as Wolverine will be good – he nails that character. With Chris McQuarrie as writer I have a feeling Bryan Singer may direct.

  • ken said:

    ok… im GO with joe!!! X-men 4!!! please…

I’m really not excited by anything Fox appears to be doing. Donner has a better grasp on this whole thing but now first class is sounding like a complete reboot and that will confuse everybody. Write a check and get the big name actors on board and resurrect what was cool Fox and fire Tom Rothman!!

This film is sounding more and more interesting and with Chris McQuarrie as the writer I have a feeling Bryan Singer may have some sort of involvement in this one since he’s worked with McQuarrie twice in Usual Suspects and Valkyrie I can’t wait for further developments on this!

Cool!! Can’t wait to see it!!! I wonder how they are going to do this?
Are they going to adapted the film after X-men 3 or after The Origin one?
I hope the X-men 3 because i think it would make more sense…?
I wonder if Victor Creed(Liev) will be in it? He was so good as Victor i would love to see him again!! But i hope they don’t mess it up!!
Maybe they can take that part out of the comic where Victor and Wolverine first meet. (In japan, where Wolverine slices off Victor’s hand because he was trying to kill some lady)
Maybe they could put that in the movie and Wolverine can learn or flashback he had a brother or something?
I don’t know!! I just hope this Movie Tops the other Wolverine movie!! And everyone just loves it!!
But as long as Hugh Jackman is in it, I’m definitely seeing this!!! He’s such a amazing actor and he’s really HOT! And i don’t want to miss those muscles!!
